Why the dates move
The rule is 45 days after quarter-end, but SEC Rule 0-3 pushes a deadline that lands on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday to the next business day. For example, the 45th day after September 30, 2026 is Saturday, November 14, so the deadline is Monday, November 16. The SEC does not grant extensions.
What happens during 13F season
- Weeks 1–5 after quarter-end: a few managers file early.
- The last week before the deadline: most large managers file, often on the final one or two days.
- Afterwards: amendments (13F-HR/A) can still arrive, including positions that were kept confidential.
During the season, some managers already show the new quarter while others still show the previous one. Clear13F marks the quarter on every row so you never compare different dates by accident. Learn why in How to read a 13F filing.
How Clear13F updates
During each filing season we check EDGAR every business day for the managers we track, add new filings and amendments, and show three dates on each page: the holdings date, the SEC filing date and the date we added the data. See the methodology.
